Meeting with the heads of many federal departments, like the Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Transportation, Department of Commerce, as well as many others.
City leaders discussed the future of transportation, arts, economic projects, and programs that will benefit Weirton.
“We gave them a review of the highlights of the past year and some of the things that we’re looking forward to,” Miller said.
Working with the agency Sustainable Solutions, city officials discussed many grant and loan opportunities for Weirton to make economic improvements.
“Every one of these meetings that we had was for a purpose,” Ford said. “It was to close a deal, fill a financial deal, get assistance for a regulatory manager. The city manager was very specific in making sure he lined up meetings to close those gaps.”
Weirton leaders also met with U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin and Sen. Shelley Capito.
“They’re both totally supportive,” Miller said. “And they’re doing everything they can to assist us to help us get these grants we’re requesting.”
Following the meetings in Washington, D.C., city leaders are confident in the prosperity of Weirton.
“We expect to have some exciting announcements here in the near future,” Miller said.
